Rushmore.

Mount Rushmore as we all know is considered to be the biggest statue of all times. It honors four Americans- George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt. It is about 1745 mtrs high. Each face is about 18 mtrs from chin to forehead, which, by the way, is twice as high as the great Sphinx. The work was designed by the American sculptor Gutzon Borglum. He was a man who was interested in American art, art related to American history and the country. He began his work on Mount Rushmore in Aug 1927. The first figure of that of Washington was dedicated on 4^th of July 1930. After Borglum died in 1941, work continued until October under the direction of his son Lincoln. But the last sculpture of Roosevelt was never quite completed. 14 years had passed since the starting of the sculpture and its termination but only 6.5 years of this time was actually spent on the work. The lapse of time without any work was due to bad weather and lack of funds. The total cost for this was under $1 million.
